Lanna Consulting was established by Jeff Petry in 1997 when Website Promotion was an entirely new field. There have been many changes along the way, and we have stayed abreast all the latest developments & strategies, as well as maintaining all the necessary software.

Jeff studied computers, languages, and social sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he received his BA.  Prior to that, he had served in the US Air Force as a Vietnamese linguist and cryptologist. He was stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines in 1978-79, where his long-term interest and involvement in Southeast Asia was sparked, followed by a stint as a cryptologist in Maryland, USA, where he pursued these and related interests. This was followed by extensive travel throughout North America from Alaska through the lower 48 down through Mexico and into Belize, Central America.

After conducting his ethnographic fieldwork and research on the Karen people in Thailand and Burma under the auspices of the Fulbright Foundation, followed by a 6-month internship in Sri Lanka, he completed his Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from Rice University, Houston, Texas, in 1993.

In 1994, Jeff became Director, Southeast Asia Operations (Chiang Mai, Thailand), for Bolder Adventures, Inc., an adventure tour company whose home office is in Boulder, Colorado.  It was at this time that he became increasingly involved with computers and the Internet, which was just then beginning to change the nature of doing business worldwide.

Shortly thereafter, Jeff founded Lanna Consulting, began recruiting the best staff available, and started building and managing a number of websites, many in the highly competitive Thai tourism industry.  But then, as now, many people had websites - but very little traffic; so his company’s focus and specialty gradually evolved into Search Engine Optimization (SEO), or Website Promotion.

Over the years, Lanna Consulting has steadily grown and developed an international clientele ranging from a Virginia-based fiberoptics company, to a Greenwich, England-based supplier of maritime antiques to several of Southeast Asia’s most successful tour companies. Recent clients include the world’s premier windsurfing board company; real estate companies in Bangkok and Phuket, Thailand; and the world’s rarest and most extensive collection of textiles from Bhutan.

Jeff travels regularly between his homes in Lebanon, Pennsylvania and Nong Khai, Thailand, through the UK and EU. He is pleased to meet with clients and potential clients anywhere in the world, and indeed welcomes the opportunity!
